Lackluster Guilds?
Hi everybody!
This is my first MMORPG, so bear with me. I'm having a real hard time finding a guild that looks like a good community to be a part of. Alot of these seem to be insular groups of buddies that banded together, or someguy that wants a cape, and later followers. Where's the good groups? I checked out a few from this forum's guild roster, but I did more work trying to talk to them than they wanted to do to recruit me. Anyone else have problems finding a decent guild? Or am I missing something? |

To start, for a first MMO, you're in for a treat, because Guild Wars takes out most of the horrors of the average MMO.
Your interpretation of Guilds is largely true. A lot are IRL friends, a lot are just guys that want capes. The best way I've found is to group up with people for quests, and people who you get along well with and treat you nicely, continue to socialize with. Soon you'll meet their own buddies, party up with them, and meet a small group of online people. You can start a guild with them and proceed to enjoy the game. Now, there are some people who don't like that approach, who are in it for the Hardcore PvP and nothing else, who just want a guild who will win, nevermind getting along. If that's what you're looking for, you're best off checking the win/loss records of guilds and go to them, rather than trying to get them to come to you. Good Luck in your hunting. ^_^ |

My advice would be to use the Guild Auditorium forum on these forums. There are a lot of guilds recruiting there, and I'm sure most of them have good communities.

Thanks for the advice. Although so far I only play PvE, so I'm not one of those win/loss ratio junkies.

Heh I had enough trouble finding a guild I wanted so I made my own. Still it's a guild of one, someday maybe in a few years the membership should move up to two.

I think there should be a minimum number in a guild at any one time. It could be a nice random number like 7

I've noticed a lot of guilds that just seem thrown together with no goal, which was something I am trying to avoid ending up with in the guild I'm in. Bear in mind, the game is pretty new, so a lot of guilds are currently small groups of friends, but they will eventually pick up members (which I've found hard to do actually), so i guess it's a matter of finding a guild and sticking with it.
Like someone mentioned earlier in the post, you have to find a guild that wants to do the same things as you game wise. I'm sure there's a guild out there for everyone (judging by the fact there seems to be a ton of guilds out there right now). |

Well I formed it during beta for the heck of it and now we are like 30 strong. But we like it that way... we do not nessesarrly recruit for ours, we just like to be able to have a place to meet together easily... then go off and do whatever. in our case we were already a gameing clan before guildwars and we got many in our membership to try out the beta... so we have a pretty good group. However we have people in our guild at the moment that are guests that just wanted to tag along with some of us. and that ok too. but at the moment only our HT Clan members are allowed to be full officers or guild leaders... everyone else is basic entry level guild members..
My advice is try forming one yourself. Its well worth it and you will meet up with other newbies that may want to join you qin your questing and join your guild. you can always leave later if you so choose... Our goals have been only pooling gold for guild items latly. and questing across the maps of course... the cape was a little higher then expected, and the island is pretty expensive, but it makes sence now that this is live and we get to keep stuff ... But other then that... its just us getting everyone in the guild up to the furtherst points in the maps and worring about quests later... Guilds
There are a few guilds that have been formed for just finding a group of people to PVE.. I was approached by such a guild and for the most part if I want to play with just henchmen they don't bother me but to just say hi and what is going on.. they will also ask if anyone wants to join them on certain quests. The majority of us are Lvl 8 to 12 so close enough for doing the majority of quests together.. look me up (though I only get on a couple times a week) and if this sounds like what you are looking for I will invite you to my guild.

Our Guild has 14 members and will participate in both PvE and PvP but right now our goal is to get everyone familiar with the game, into a caracter they are comfortable with and pool resources to equip everyone with the best armor, weapons and skills available. If you are interested in joining up with us some time and run a mission or a quest just look for one of my characters in game Kron of Amn Kronos The Red Or anyone with the [HoaK] suffix |

Finding the right guild is often difficult. Knights of the Alliance (KoA) is a very fun guild for the mature player. I have belonged to this guild for several years and we have chapters in UO, WoW, and now GW. The SB chapter has closed down.
We are mostly 20 or 30 somethings that like to have fun. We have held several RL guild meet ups. My best advice is to shop around and look for a guild that fits your play style. |

Anyway, I checked out your website, and it's very nice -- you all seem to mesh as a guild. Hopefully I'll find a similar "home" in time. |

I have talked to many people that are having troubles finding that perfect fit, the deal is in every guild there is going to be those few people that just rub you the wrong way, and there are guilds that were built purley to have a cape, and there are guilds that are so competitive that it hurts. We decided to make a balanced guild that has both PvE and PvP, we have different officers of both areas, for PvE we run with the noobs, and new recruits to see if they would fit us, and get a feel for there play type. Are they all for themselves..or are they willing to help others... then we PvP and see how they play there and if they want to be in GvG battles. We want a good group of players that are willing to help everyone, down to the noobs. I think so far we have done a good job. Thing about this game, you can quit a guild as well, they dont fit you, let the leader know why and take off. We try and find out our players issues before anyone gets to the point of quiting, but you can only try and talk to players.....they may not want to talk back. I wish you all the luck in the world to find that fit, because it is a great experience when you do. Keep looking!!!
Remember there are other sites as well that list guilds, since some guilds have been having issues getting there site listed with Guru.......the guild hall has a good list as well.... Last edited by CatsPaw; May 24, 2005 at 12:46 PM // 12:46.. |

My advise to all who are seeking a guild.
I see this all the time and it saddens me. Do not rush into it. A guild is very much like if not the same as a group of life friends. You will be judged by those you associate with. Make sure you are comfortable and not afraid to speak your mind. Make sure they stand for the same things you do, RP, PvP, PvE, highly active, ect. And above all have fun Good Luck. |

I got a lot of help from my guild during PvE on missions; a guild is also good for trading items.
Guilds become more important as you reach end game in PvE, because you start playing more PvP instead. Most of my PvE game is just unlocking things for PvP now. Ultimately, all your guildmates will be experts in GW, so its not important to join an experienced bunch now or a group high on the guild ladder. I agree with the above posts that you just have to find a group that you get along with. Lot of the guilds that are transferring from other games (WoW or Star Wars, ect) are hard to break into. |

the others were in the same mud yes. i think their main one was Astaria, but there were others. i came from MOO backgrounds myself. a little over half of the guild so far is from the same mud group, so it's not exclusive. as far as meshing, everyone on that list is either a friend or someone that we can play well with and help each other out. i suppose it helps that we don't subscribe to the "warm meat" philosophy and insist on grouping with interested parties for a bit first. i'm sure we're not the only guild out there like that. |
